How do serial soap opera actors, often for extended periods, struggle with their own authentic Karmic obligations, while immersed in difficult mental/negative roles? After all, the subconscious only interprets bare facts as inputted – whether they’re tangible or fictitious. I’ve always wondered about this.
That’s a very interesting question John – not exactly related to this show, but I am always happy to answer metaphysical questions if I can. As a matter of fact I have thought about this quite a bit because I did drama at university at the time when I was first discovering The Aetherius Society. The subconscious deals not just with a thought expressed in words but also emotions, so I think it will depend very much on how much detachment the actor in question is capable of. If they are very aware, even while acting, that the role they are portraying is not real and has nothing to do with them it should not affect them too much. It will also depend how much they identify/sympathise with the character of their part. If, for example, they are playing a racist they should be intent on exposing the racism for the wicked thing it is through their portrayal rather than seeking empathy for their character. All this will determine how much it impacts on their subconscious and their Karma. Since the advent of method acting, it would be wise for actors to use spiritual practices after a acting a negative role and indeed to be very honest with themselves after portraying a great figure such as Jesus or Gandhi to avoid delusions of grandeur creeping in!
