It’s interesting to hear the ‘ moment of truth ‘ feature from different people.
For anyone interested, my ‘ moment of truth ‘ came just 3 days after my 23rd birthday ( on the 17th day of the month, which numerologists will say is the number of karma ) when unfortunately I had a rather serious road accident in the north of England. I had just finished student life, which consisted of a fairly narrow rut of an existence, dominated by academic study on the one hand, and intense participation in a range of sports on the other.
Following the accident I spent a dull couple of weeks in hospital, and whilst in the throes of a moment of desperate boredom, I plucked a Readers Digest edition from a bookshelf in my ward. It contained an article about Carl Jung and his interest in psychic research. I was intrigued, and decided to do some research into these kind of subjects after I was released from hospital.
About a month later, following several weeks of combing through bookshops and buying books on Rosicrucian teachings etc, I decided on the spur of the moment to call in at my local library which was about a mile from my parent’s house – a very small provincial library. Whilst scouring the books on a top shelf, my attention was suddenly arrested by a strange looking book with what looked to me to be a kind of 1960s era type design on the cover. What really made me sit up and take notice though were the words ‘ On July 8th 1964 the greatest event in the History of the world took place ‘ I distinctly remember thinking ‘ I have a pretty good knowledge of world history, but I haven’t ever heard of anything of any significance happening on that date.’ Next to it was another book by the same author entitled ‘ The Three Saviours Are Here. ‘ This was all very strange and deserved a closer look !
I sat down at a table with both books and though I didn’t really know what to make of the content, I was intrigued by a concise introduction to the author by Charles Abrahamson – an individual I had never heard of called Dr George King. I promptly decided to borrow both books from the library so that I could do some intense study that evening at home.
Whilst both books were pretty mind boggling, I remember that one thing that did particularly catch my attention that evening was reading about what were described as ‘ sorties ‘ by some kind of entities referred to mysteriously as ‘ The Three Adepts. ‘ Somewhere in the recesses of my mind something was stirring. I was inexplicably intrigued to read that one of the many sorties referred to in the book happened on the very day that I was born. It remember that it gave me a jolt and sent something of a shiver down my spine, and I wasn’t really sure why.
Anyway, the following day I rang the London number stated in the books, and the lady who answered suggested that I ring my local HQ in the north of England. I followed her advice, and this time my call was answered by a Hazel Moody who started out by asking me for my name. Imagine the mutual astonishment and sudden silence when she told me that my name was the same as her maiden name !
A visit to the HQ at Birdwell, near Barnsley ensued the following week, and I was able to sit down with Hazel and ask many questions. This trip involved taking six buses there and back, from my home city in the north, as I was still a few months away from passing my driving test. On my second ever visit I was talking to Hazel’s sister, and just for a moment we stood in the reception area looking at a picture on the wall of Dr King. Without even thinking about what I was saying I suddenly blurted out ‘ so which planet does George King come from ? ‘ I can still very clearly remember the dumbstruck expression on Sylvia’s face and her momentary loss for words…
About 9 months on from that fateful moment in my local library I became a Society member, and then 34 months after that one of Dr King’s staff members. It all happened rather quickly I think it’s fair to say. By the way, nobody in Barnsley at the time had the slightest idea how those two books could have ended up in a small northern city library – particularly as they were never intended to be Society introductory books designed for the general public !
